Ingredients

Cake Batter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons orange blossom water
  • 1 tablespoon zest of orange
Orange Syrup
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Method

Prepare the Cake
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Mix in the milk, orange blossom water, and orange zest.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Make the Orange Syrup
  1. While the cake is baking, combine the orange juice and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and set aside.
Finish the Cake
  1. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  2. Poke holes in the top of the cake with a toothpick and pour the orange syrup over the warm cake.
  3. Allow the cake to cool completely before serving.
