For the Sandwich
  • 1 lb minced beef preferably lean
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 4 slices cheese optional, such as cheddar or Swiss
  • 4 slices bread your choice, such as ciabatta or sourdough

Method

Prepare the Caramelized Onions
  1. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
Cook the Minced Beef
  1. In another skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced beef, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 10-15 minutes.
Assemble the Sandwich
  1. Toast the bread slices lightly. Layer the cooked minced beef on the bottom slice, top with caramelized onions, and add cheese if desired. Place the top slice of bread on and press down gently.
Serve
