Making the Pretzels
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- Add all-purpose flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
- In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces and shape each into a bunny form.
- Boil the shaped pretzels in the baking soda water for 30 seconds, then remove and let drain.
- Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Mix the egg and water to create an egg wash and brush over the pretzels.
- Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
