Method

Making the Pretzels
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add all-purpose flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  6. In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  7. Divide the dough into equal pieces and shape each into a bunny form.
  8. Boil the shaped pretzels in the baking soda water for 30 seconds, then remove and let drain.
  9. Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Mix the egg and water to create an egg wash and brush over the pretzels.
  11. Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top.
  12. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
