  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 0.25 cups cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Ganache Ingredients
  • 1 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cups heavy cream

Method
 

Baking the Cake
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two round cake pans by greasing and lining with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in one bowl. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing in vanilla.
  3. Gradually combine dry ingredients with milk until just combined. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Making the Pastry Cream
  1. For pastry cream, heat milk until steaming. Whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch together; slowly add hot milk while whisking.
  2. Return to heat until thickened; stir in butter and vanilla.
Preparing the Ganache
  1. For ganache, heat heavy cream until boiling, pour over chocolate chips, let sit for five minutes then stir until smooth.
Assembling the Cake
  1. Once cooled completely, layer one cake with pastry cream, top with the second layer, and drizzle with ganache.
